French Onion Meatloaf Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 18 to 22 minutes, until deeply softened and golden.
Remove 1/4 cup of the caramelized onions and set aside for topping.
Add the ground beef, oats, egg whites, milk, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, black pepper, and thyme to a large bowl.
Add the remaining caramelized onions to the bowl.
Mix gently just until combined.
Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan and press it gently into an even loaf.
Top with the reserved caramelized onions.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Sprinkle the shredded Swiss cheese evenly over the top.
Return to the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the meatloaf reaches 160°F in the center.
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
