Knitting pattern using the plastic cover of the wet wipe and thin socks
Knitting with unconventional materials can be a fun and creative challenge. Here is a basic pattern for using plastic covers from wet wipes and thin socks to create a colorful and unique tote bag:
Materials:
Plastic covers from wet wipes (around 20-30 covers depending on the size of the bag you want to make)
Thin socks (around 3 pairs, again depending on the size of the bag)
Scissors
Knitting needle (size US 9 or 10)
Thread and needle (for sewing the bag together)
Pattern:
Cut the plastic covers into long, thin strips that are around 1 inch wide.
Take one of the strips and tie a knot at one end. This will be the beginning of your yarn.
Thread the yarn through the knitting needle and begin knitting a basic garter stitch, which is simply knitting every row.
As you run out of one strip, tie another strip to it and continue knitting until you have a strip of fabric that is roughly 20 inches long and 10 inches wide. This will be one side of your tote bag.
Repeat steps 2-4 to create another strip of fabric that is the same size as the first.
Cut the socks into long, thin strips that are around 1 inch wide.
Using the sock strips, knit a strip of fabric that is roughly 20 inches long and 10 inches wide.
Repeat step 7 to create another strip of sock fabric that is the same size as the first.
Sew the two plastic fabric strips together along one long edge.
Sew the two sock fabric strips together along one long edge.
Sew the plastic fabric strip to the sock fabric strip along the short edges, creating a rectangular bag shape.
Fold the bag in half with the plastic fabric on one side and the sock fabric on the other side.
Sew the two sides of the bag together, leaving the top open.
Cut two strips of sock fabric to create handles for the bag. Sew one end of each handle to each side of the bag.
Your tote bag is now complete and ready to use!
